Basically, there are two options to respond to this challenge: Either scientific naturalism can be "beaten" by presenting phenomena that defy a naturalistic explanation or it can be "joined" by granting that there are no explanatory gaps. This article presents versions of both options and discusses their implications and consequences. | ||
| 520 | |a Die Wissenschaften operieren auf der Basis eines methodologischen Naturalismus. Ihr anhaltender Erfolg fordert das theistische Bekenntnis auf unterschiedliche Weise heraus. Er scheint die Schlussfolgerung nahezulegen, dass Gott zu Erklärungszwecken überflüssig ist, was wiederum nahelegt, dass Gott nicht existiert. Grundsätzlich gibt es zwei Optionen, auf diese Herausforderung zu reagieren: Entweder versucht man, den wissenschaftlichen Naturalismus zu widerlegen, indem man Phänomene präsentiert, die sich einer naturalistischen Erklärung angeblich widersetzen. Oder man schließt sich ihm an und räumt ein, dass es keine Erklärungslücken gibt. Versionen beider Optionen werden vorgestellt und deren jeweilige Implikationen und Konsequenzen diskutiert. | ||

Le succès grandissant des sciences pose de plusieurs manières un défi à la croyance en Dieu, ce qui semble conduire à la conclusion que croire en Dieu est inutile à des fins d’explication, et, pour cela, suggérer qu’il n’y a pas de Dieu. Il y a essentiellement deux réponses à ce défi: soit le naturalisme scientifique peut être «battu» par la présence de phénomènes qui défient une explication naturelle, ou bien il peut être «rejoint» si l’on reconnaît qu’il ne s’agit pas d’un manque d’explication. Cet article présente ces deux possibilités et discute de leurs implications et de leurs conséquences. | ||
