Er klärt (2) die semantischen Profile und die neuzeitliche Veränderung in der Beziehung zwischen dem inszenierten, oft sozial instrumentalisierten Feierritus und dem Fest, dessen Emergenz z. B. mit affektiven Erregung begleitet wird. Er kritisiert (3) Definitionen des „Wesens“ des Festes (Exzess vs. Besinnung) und religiös-utopische Versuche, Fest und Alltag zu verschmelzen. (4) Auch phänomenologische Definitionen des Festes als „das Andere des Alltags“ erreichen noch nicht den kulturellen Unterschied zwischen Feier und Fest. Dieser unterschied lässt sich aber idealtypisch beschreiben, wenn man die charismatische Genese außeralltäglicher kultureller Praxis analysiert. (5) identifiziert das charismatische Moment von Freundschaft und begründet die These, dass Freunde die Grenze der machbaren Feier zu selbst eintretenden Festlichkeit sowohl respektieren als sie auch bereit sind, sich dieser schöpferischen Verwandlung zu öffnen. (6) reflektiert die religionsphilosophischen und die theologischen Implikationen dieser These. Gegen christliche Verdächtigungen festlichen Überschwangs stellte ich das eschatologische Recht von Hölderlins Verknüpfung von Fest und Freundschaft heraus: Das beglückte Fest unter Freunden ist ein Versprechen auf die Epiphanie des Göttlichen, ein darstellendes Zeichen des Reiches Gottes, das ein Reich der Freundschaft ist. | ||
| 520 | |a Interpreting Friedrich Hölderlin’s hymn “Friedensfeier” the essay (i) defines the hypothesis that it is the spirit of friendship by which a celebration (to be planned and stage-managed deliberately) may be transformed into a feast that friends can hope for but whose splendor and serendipity they cannot produce. (ii) I clarify the semantic profiles and the modern variation in the relation between ritual ceremonies, which are often being instrumentalized by social interests, and the feast whose emergence is intermingled e. g. with affective excitement. (iii) criticizes essentialist definitions of feast (e. g. excess vs. reflection) and religious utopias merging feast and workaday life. (iv) Also phenomenological definitions of the feast as “the other of daily routine” do not match the cultural difference between celebration and feast. An ideal-typical distinction, however, is possible if we take the charismatic genesis of non-everyday cultural practices into account. (v) identifies the charismatic moment of friendship and justifies the thesis that friends respect the difference between feasible ceremonies and contingent festivity transcending ceremonial style – friends are as well willing to open up to this creative transformation. (vi) The author explains some implications of the thesis in terms of philosophy of religion and of theology. Disputing Christian suspicions of feastful exuberance I highlight the eschatological legitimacy of Hölderlin’s entanglement of feast and friendship: A felicitous feast among friends is a promise of divine epiphany, a performative sign of God’s kingdom, which is a realm of friendship. | ||
