Descrição
Resumo:No studies have been conducted on persons who have sought to be ordained to the ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland but who have not succeeded. It is unknown whether dropped ordinations are a result of withdrawn requests or outright rejection. The role of psychological assessment in the process is also unclear. The paper presents a pilot study of 13 recent cases of dropped ordination in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland. A mixed method analysis identified three types of dropped ordination. Statistical comparisons indicated no differences between the 13 cases and ordained persons. This exploratory study provides new information on why and how dropped ordination takes place, and to whom it happens. It also presents an example of how a mixed method approach can be used to extract information in cases where purely qualitative or quantitative methods are insufficient.
