Long regarded as a later addition to the Decretum, De penitentia was in fact already present in the first recension of Gratian’s work and likely stems from the master himself. A detailed appendix critiques Larson’s proposed method for discerning intermediate stages in the development of the second recension of Gratian’s Decretum. | ||
