Just like a litter of dogs their names all begin with the same letter. Genetic engineering – the way into suspense. This appears to be the title of one of the paintings that shows some figures leaving the body of a human being, all rising up towards a nebulous world. In cubes of plexiglass, there are hanging letters denoting the words for 'man/woman' in many different languages of the world. Illuminated by the daylight men and women have to mark their position towards one another and towards creation. Gigantic portraits of handicapped people dominate the gallery of the church. Next to the altar we find a large vari-coloured painting showing the crucified Christ surrounded by DNA strands. This surreal and scary world depicted by a group of contemporary artists, provides the backdrop for a church service, lectures and dialogues between artists and theologians on the theme of, 'Human Existence in the Age of Genetic Engineering'. This project took place in 2005, in the reformed Church of Wuppertal in Germany. It was curated by Dr. Heike Knops, who works in the field of bioethics at the Church College (Wuppertal, Germany). | ||

Este parece ser el título de uno de los cuadros que muestra cómo ciertas figuras abandonan el cuerpo de un ser humano para ascender a un mundo nebuloso.En unos cubos de plexiglás, cuelgan las letras correspondientes a las palabras 'hombre' y 'mujer', escritas en diferentes idiomas. Iluminados por la luz del día, los hombres y las mujeres tienen que marcar la posición que ocupan con respecto al otro sexo y a la creación. Retratos gigantescos de personas discapacitadas dominan la galería de la iglesia. Junto al altar se ve un gran cuadro multicolor que representa a Cristo crucificado, rodeado de cadenas de ADN. Este inquietante mundo surrealista, desarrollado por un grupo de artistas contemporáneos, proporciona el telón de fondo para misas, conferencias y diálogos entre artistas y teólogos sobre el tema de 'La Existencia Humana en la Era de la Ingeniería Genética'. Este proyecto tuvo lugar en 2005, en la iglesia reformista de Wuppertal en Alemania. Fue curado por el Dr. Heike Knops, que trabaja en el campo de la bioética en el Church College (Wuppertal, Alemania). | ||
