| LOK | |0 938 |l Abstract: René Girard has been criticized for misunderstanding the true nature of the sacrifice of the cross. But the concept of sacrifice has not been very clear either in theological tradition or in the exegetical discussions of today. Girard's thought on the other hand contributes greatly to clarifying this issue, because it agrees perfectly with a dramatic interpretation of revelation in Jesus Christ, as inspired by the "Theodramatik" of H.U. von Balthasar. Thus we gain a conception of sacrifice which incorporates the actions of men (liars, false judges, murderers), the behavior of Jesus himself (obedience towards the Father. non-violence towards the authors of violence, identification with the victims of violence), and the agency of the heavenly Father (abandonment of his son to the action of men = divine wrath, and resurrection = final victory over lies and violence).
