Riepilogo:This article deals with the implications of the introduction of the Avestan texts into ritual and their usage as fixed liturgical texts in the process of their canonisation. Such texts seem to have been recomposed freely many times before their ritual application, but they have been treated as unchangeable texts after their ritualisation. It will be discussed that Staota Yesniia in the Yasna liturgy could be considered a canonised version of different performed Staota Yesniias at a middle stage in the canonisation process of the Yasna text. Subsequently, the former should have been prolonged in order that other ritual acts would be accompanied by text recitation. Moreover, it will be showed that not only Widewdad and Visparad have acted as complementary ritual texts of the Yasna, but also the Yaìts. This article also concerns the transmission of the texts in an oral tradition and introduces the concept of ›ritual‹ transmission for the transmission of the unchangeable ritual texts. Finally, it will be argued that Assmann’s theory of ritual and textual coherence is not satisfactory to model the canonisation of the Avestan texts and some extensions are proposed.
