Description
Summary:The article examines the concept of ›Islamization of Sciences‹ as it has been propagated since the 1970s in contrast to the western scientific logic. The project of Islamization as a typical form of indigenization aims at the unity of belief and scientific world view. Western sociology is criticized due to its positivistic bias which is considered as an obstacle to a science that tries to integrate transcendental tenets into the research process. The central questions are: Is the new form of Islamic Sociology actually a social science or should it better be labeled as a discipline of Islamic theology due to its reliance on given religious values? Is the change of paradigms – from universalistic to indigenious social science – part of a broader crisis in the Islamic world?
