Summary: | Menahem Mendel Schneerson (1902-1994), the seventh leader of Habad-hasidism, expected the arrival of Messiah in his generation. He distinguishes between two stages of redemption: first the era of the Messiah, which is defined strictly by the physical laws of this world, and after it the era of the resurrection of the dead, which brings about a full revelation of God. This doctrine Schneerson combines with teachings related to Luranic Kabbalah, the »rising of the sparks«. Mankind is responsible for bringing about the coming of Messiah and it has to overcome three kinds of dichotomy: God-world, spirit-matter, and soul-body. Mankind will then recognise that all existence depends on God, because only God is possessed of independent reality. |
