The article analyses this confrontation's historical preconditions, the arguments and counter-arguments advanced by Wilson and his opponents, the hermeneutical and religious implications of these arguments and the communicative media in which they were advanced. The debate between Wilson and the Parsis acquired a new dramatic dimension when, in 1939, the missionary's critique of Zoroastrism and his Christian preaching resulted in the conversion of two Parsi boys to Christianity. Finally, the article considers some longterm consequences of this confrontation. | ||
