Gerhard wrote his Tractatus de legitima Scripturæ Sacræ Interpretatione (1610) to serve as a corrective for flawed Roman Catholic and Reformed methodologies which he was concerned were imperiling the faith of Christians by detracting from the authority of Sacred Scripture.
