While this work takes place across various academic disciplines and in relation to textbooks for diverse school subjects, the chapter primarily discusses the field of religious studies and German-language textbook analysis. The chapter highlights the following tendencies and trends: First, while older textbook research explores accurate or inaccurate depictions of a specific faith, more recent work prioritises the depiction of religious diversity in textbooks. Second, most textbook analyses focus on theories and methods, although some new studies draw their rationale from political interests such as promoting democracy. Finally, evident research gaps include differentiation within religions, the intersectional nature of religion and society, boundary drawing between religion and ‘non-religion,’ and digital humanities-related issues. | ||
