290 |a The idea behind faith -based religious education in schools, in this context specifically Catholic religious education, is based on a number of documents issued by the Vatican and other theological sources. The document Gravissimum educationis, issued in 1965, opened the way to a new perspective on religious education, church -based catechesis and higher education in a Catholic context. A point specific to BiH is that the document considers schools to be places particularly representative of the pluralism which characterises the country’s society as it is now (GE 24). The document Gaudium et spes regards human beings as the origin, centre and ultimate aim of economic and cultural activity due to the basis of human dignity in humanity’s being made in the image of God (GS 12). The same document condemns different pernicious teachings (GS 19–21); concluding, it considers dialogue to be the only way to overcome internal differences among Christians (GS 92). The Council Declaration Nostra aetate discusses other religions , including a brief description of and commentary on Hinduism and Buddhism, whose teachings and precepts, according to the declaration, contain a ray of the truth which enlightens all humankind, although they depart in a number of matters from the truth as conceived of and taught by the Catholic Church.
