Dieser Sammelband soll dazu dienen, die Diskussion auch in Deutschland wieder zu beleben, und er soll den Praktikern von der Vorschule bis zur Hochschule erkennen helfen, wie sie täglich zur Sozialisation von Moral der Lernenden beitragen. Dieser Sammelband stellt den theoretischen Ansatz von Lawrence Kohlberg, der auf Piaget aufbaut, dar. Dazu kommen kritische Stellungnahmen und wichtige Erweiterungen dieses Ansatzes. Kohlberg selbst wird mit einer neueren theoretischen Arbeit vorgestellt und zwei praktischen Anwendungen, eine im Gefängnis und eine in der Schule. Die übrigen amerikanischen und deutschen Autoren setzen bei den Schwierigkeiten der Kohlberg-schen Konzeption an und formulieren herausfordernde theoretische Alternativen. Dabei werden insbesondere historisch-gesellschaftliche Faktoren, die bei Kohlberg weitgehend fehlen, einbezogen.
