678 |b Clergyman of the Church of England, now retired, having served in a parish ministry and also in Cathedral foundations and Westminster Abbey. Born in Bristol, he read classics and theology at Oxford, and did his ordination preparation in Cambridge. Since meeting his bilingual wife, Enid, he too has become a fluent Welsh speaker, and has written the only comprehensive book on the Welsh hymn, both music and words - WELSH HYMNS AND THEIR TUNES (1990 Hope Publishing Code No. 63). From being involved in the Dunblane Music Consultation, he joined the British Hymn Society, serving as its Secretary and then Chairman. He has written a number of hymns, texts and tunes. As Chairman of the Pratt Green Trust, he is now involved with the production of a comprehensive database CD-ROM project of current British hymnody, entitled HymnQuest. His text "They Did Not Build In Vain" has been included as hymn #542 in Hope's new hymnal WORSHIP & REJOICE (2001)
