Von 1977 bis 1990 war er Assistent an der Universität Regensburg und habilitierte sich 1987. Seit 1990 ist er Professor für Liturgiewissenschaft an der Universität Augsburg. 1994 erhielt er die Priesterweihe in Augsburg und leitet seit 1997 eine Pfarreiengemeinschaft im Bistum Augsburg.
